Dear Longwood Middle School Families,
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer and are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. Our staff and faculty have been working hard to prepare our building and classrooms for our students. We are excited to welcome everyone back to school and look forward to working with you and your children to make the middle school experience memorable, interactive and engaging.
We have some exciting changes occurring at the middle school. First, we are implementing a new model for our sixth grade. Students will now have a team of four teachers that they will rotate through on a daily basis. This new model will best prepare our sixth graders for the challenges of junior high school. Our second exciting change is that the middle school will be adding another assistant principal to our administrative team. Given the size of the school community, having an additional administrator will help to best support our students, staff and families.
There are also a few additions to our faculty. We are delighted to welcome: Ms. West, Ms. Sanchez, Ms. Weil, Mr. Johnson, Ms. Greenstein, Ms. Montes, Ms. Williams and Ms. Grady to the middle school this year!
We are excited to welcome this year’s PTA Board. President, Mrs. Bridget de Lutio, Vice President, Ms. Jennifer Lyons, Treasurer, Ms. Danielle Durant, Recording Secretary, Ms. Cheryl Ripa, and Council Delegate, Ms. Angela Kiang.
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each level. Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities. All of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for all students.
Longwood Middle School is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.
